Upcoming Events

October 4th

Open Mic Night

Here is a chance for you to be part of the program this evening. Bring your interesting or humourous ham radio related stories such as your worst antenna install, or how you cleverly solved a tough problem with your radio gear. If you wish, you can ask questions; for example, the best HT to buy, but don’t ask how to go about programming it (since no one knows for sure), or maybe ask what brand of base dual-band antenna to use.

We will have a video projector available for a short video or slide show. The projector needs VGA input, so you need the necessary adaptors for your computer.

The president will have a gong, and if you run too long, you will get “gonged” along with boos and hisses from the audience. This looks like it is going to be a fun and entertaining evening.

November 1st

Steve Cooper Trio

Enjoy live music this evening!

Steve will narrate his selection of music during the introduction of his music selection. He has many interesting stories about the musicians and singers behind the big music hits. He plays the music we all know and we can sing along with…or at least tap our feet. Consider bringing your spouse, friend, or any music lover. This is a special treat for us – don’t miss it!

Notice the meeting starts at 7PM – arrive early to get a good seat

Hamfesters Dues

Hamfesters Radio club values your participation in the club. We need your dues to support to keep the club running. Standard dues are $20/yr. And $10/yr for spouse or other family member. Current members will remain on the mailing list which announces the availability of HamGab and other important club news. In the early spring of the year, I remove those members who are delinquent from the list. Contact Brian, W9HLQ, if you are not getting the monthly HamGab announcements.

With the number of new members (and old members who forget!) here is a review of the dues process for Hamfesters. The final date for dues is the 31st of December which pays for the following year’s dues. To facilitate the collection of dues I set up a table to make it easy for you to pay your dues. I set up the table for the October and November meetings. I appreciate if you are going to pay in person, to pay your dues at either the October or November meeting. Thank you. I will not collect dues at the December Christmas dinner.

If you can’t attend either of these meetings, feel free to mail in your dues; payable to “Hamfesters Radio Club”. Send to Brian Davis, W9HLQ. When paying in person, we are equipped to accept your Visa or Master card if you don’t have cash handy. Don’t forget that you can pay your dues online at our web site:

www.hamfesters.org/main/club-information

You can check your dues status by going to the Hamfesters web site and clicking on the “Members Only” link on the left side of the page. The years that you have paid for are shown as a two digit number for the years you have paid. You will need a password to access this information. If you are a paid member, contact any Hamfesters officer to get the passcode.

Thank you and 73,
Brian Davis, W9HLQ, Membership Chmn.

W9AA Nets

Tom, KA9ZXN, is off the air because he is moving his QTH, This means that he will not be running the 10 meter or 2 meter nets for until he gets his station back on the air. We wish Tom a swift return to the radio waves…we need you!

Because of Tom’s absence, we are looking for a temporary net control for both nets. Please consider picking up your mike and assume temporary net control.

Failing that, if you are not able to help out with the net, consider the Sunday and Monday evening nets as suspended until Tom rejoins us. We will have more information at the general meeting.

Sunset Run 5k – College Of Dupage

From Dave N9KPD

Hey all, this is the final year that I know of for the College of DuPage “Sunset Run 5k”. Some of you have already said you are coming (and some of you I am inviting) and need to find out if you can make it) but if you could please reply to this email to confirm what time you will be coming and what SIZE t-shirt you wear. Those who get me an answer by Sunday night with their size will definitely get one. Those who answer later will maybe get one.

Race Day information.
Location: College of DuPage (South Side). Directions where to meet will come this week.
Date: October 5, 2019
Time: I’d like to check everyone in by 3:30pm LATEST. So if you could arrive by 3PM that would be great. If you can come earlier, you can enjoy the food trucks there on site. Let me know if you would be an early arrival and if you would be willing to help in any other positions before the race time. If you come earlier, I’ll be there from the morning helping with parking duty.

Communications set up:
Channel 1: N9ZD backup repeater: 443.275+ 100.0 PL
Channel 2: 446.975 SIMPLEX

These 2 frequencies have done us well.

Race Time: 4:30pm is the start of the 5K. It should end around 6pm or before.

After party: after the race we go out for dinner at one of the nearby food venues and enjoy some good food and company.

I will have some spare radios for those who don’t have UHF capability or if you don’t know how to program your radio. If you know anyone who is also interested please have them email me directly here at n9kpd@arrl.net

Thank you for the time

Again, please reply back to me if you are going, what your callsign is, and what shirt size you have. Also, if you need to be a short time post, let me know. I’ll arrange for you to be on the earlier release posts.

p.s. If you are interested in 2 more events, Don N9IZU will be handling the coordination for the Crop Walk (Sunday OCT 20) and also the Bonfield Express Run (Thanksgiving).

Thanks again

Dave / N9KPD
